Slicers in Excel

Slicers in Excel allow you to filter pivot tables in a simple and fast way. Use multiple slicers with multiple pivot tables to create interactive reports easily.

To insert a slicer, execute the following steps.

1. Click any cell inside the pivot table.

2. On the PivotTable Analyze tab, find the Filter group, and click Insert Slicer.

3. Check the Country and click OK.

 

4. Choose the United States to find out the top products we export to the country.

Conclusion: Bananas are the main product we send to the United States. Cell B1 filter now shows the United States.
OK, that was pretty easy. Let’s insert a second slicer.

5. Click any cell inside the pivot table.

6. Go to the PivotTable Analyze tab. In the Filter group, click on Insert Slicer.

7. Check Product and click OK.

8. Select the slicer.

9. Go to the Slicer tab and select a slicer style from the Slicer Styles group.

10. Use the second slicer. Click the Multi-Select button to select multiple products.

Note: Instead of using the Multi-Select button, you can select multiple items by holding the CTRL key.

To impress your boss, complete the steps below carefully.

11. Insert a second pivot table.

Use the steps below to connect both slicers to this pivot table.

12. Select the first slicer.

13. Go to the Slicer tab, find the Slicer group, and click Report Connections.

14. Select the second pivot table and click OK.

15. Repeat steps 12-14 for the second slicer.

16. Use both slicers.

Conclusion: The total value of apples exported to Canada is $24,867 from 6 orders, and the total value of oranges exported to Canada is $19,929 from 3 orders.

17. To clear the filter, click the icon in the upper-right corner of the slicer.

Note: We did not export beans or carrots to Canada. Download the Excel file and experiment with slicers to design professional reports.
